Acting with the poorest

Addressing the causes

Hunger and poverty are offences against human dignity. And yet 800 million people still do not have enough to eat each day while 1.5 billion people continue to live below the absolute poverty line.

In its efforts to combat these evils, CCFD seeks to battle not just the consequences but also the causes of poverty and inequality.

Placing humanity at the forefront of development

Every human person whatever his or her culture, religion or origin needs to have free access to the fundamental goods, which include healthy and appropriate food, education, health, housing, the right to enjoy the fruits of one's work and freedom of conscience. Development strategies must focus on meeting these needs.

An extract from the CCFD Orientation Report (2008-2012)

« Emphasising the priority of the human person over material goods remains urgent today. So too is the absolute necessity of maintaining respect for the fundamental rights of each person, and ensuring that natural resources, science, technology and the economy serve the fundamental needs of humanity. »
